FM Spokesman: Iran-Russia consultations can lead to regional stability, security

Moscow, Oct 11, IRNA – Spokesman of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said here Monday evening that consultations between the two powerful countries of Iran and Russia as well as the close ties that bind both sides can lead to regional stability and security.
Ramin Mehmanparast who was speaking at a press conference at Russia’s state owned RIA-Novosti international news agency added, “We evaluate Russia’s vetoing on the UN resolution aimed at imposing pressure against Syria as a positive move, as the resolution was among the dangerous US and western countries’ plots for the Middle East. We believe by highlighting the Syria issue, the United States is after initiating a deviation in the course of the popular regional movements.”
Referring to his meeting with his Russian counterpart, He said, “In that meeting the fields for Tehran-Moscow cooperation were surveyed and the two sides stressed the importance of media propagation in bilateral cooperation.”
Mehmanparast said that Iran and Russia are two major and powerful regional countries, adding that continual consultations at various levels between the Iranian and Russian officials can lead to stability and security in the region.
Referring to the recent developments in the Middle East, he emphasized, “Such contacts and consultations between the powerful regional countries, such as Iran and Russia, can be a solution to the crises.”
Mehmanparast said that presently Iran-Russia relations are at a very satisfactory level, reiterating that the two countries’ capabilities and potentials must be facilitated for further expansion of ties more than ever before.
He added, “The Middle East is important for economic reason and for the Palestine and the occupied al-Aqsa case, and the United States has always been trying to shape up the Mideast the way that pleases it, confronting any country that is opposed to that plan.
“The Americans have also tried to create a deviated line in the course of the regional revolutions, stressing on the Algeria and Syria issues, aimed at crashing the resistance movement against Israel.”
Mehmanparast referred to the unlimited US support for the Zionist regime, emphasizing, “The United States cares for nothing other that the preservation of the Jewish state, and what happened in Syria, including getting killed of 1,200 disciplinary forces there, aimed at breaking the resistance front, leaves no solution for the regional nations, save for acting united and strong.”
Elaborating on Iran’s stands regarding the regional developments, he said, “Iran is optimistic regarding these self-propelled movements and believes that belong to the nations. We also believe that with the occurrence of these developments the United States would no longer have any room to stay in the region.”
Mehmanparast, in response to the Bloomberg reporter’s question on Iran’s stand regarding Putin’s return to the Russian presidency position, said, “Anyone chosen by the great Russian nation as their president would definitely be respected by Iran.”
In response to another question regarding Iran-Turkey relations in the wake of the two countries’ great differences of opinion regarding the developments in Syria, Mehmanparast reiterated, “Iran and Turkey are neighbors with lots of historical and cultural commonalties, and they must take advantage of each other’s capabilities aimed at countering the foreign plots. The two countries’ officials must wisely think together and counter the west’s efforts aimed at fomenting crises and insecurity in the region.”
Mehmanparast then referred to the hue and cry made by the west over Russia’s vetoing of the anti-Syrian resolution, stressing, “That was positive move aimed at blocking the path of the perilous western countries’ plans for the Middle East and according to an opinion poll conducted in Russia, 87% of the Russians have approved of their government’s move in that respect.”
Elsewhere in his press conference, Mehmanparast was faced with a question on Iran’s filed complaint at a Court of Justice against Russia’s refraining from the delivery of its sold S-300 missiles to Iran despite its commitments as per the related signed contract? He said, “That contract was a commercial contract in which the two sides commitments, gains and responsibilities, remuneration terms, the time of delivery and everything else are properly mentioned, and now, too, the matter is under survey quite normally, and as per the terms of the signed contract.”
Mehmanparast added, “This issue would leave no negative impact on the two countries’ relations, but we have still not understood the reason why the missiles, which were merely of defense value, were not delivered to Iran. Yet, Iran-Russia relations are expanding and the two countries are planning for their further broadening.”
Also on the future of Palestine and the issue of establishment of a country under that name in the occupied territories, he said, “Palestine has always been a major and basic issue in Iran’s foreign policy priorities. We believe so long as in the peace plans even a small portion of the people’s rights, too, are not included and oppression against them is going to continue, we believe such plans are doomed to defeat.”
According to Mehmanparast, Iran’s proposal for solving this crisis is quite clear: The entire Palestine for the entire Palestinians, including the Muslims, the Jews, and the Christians.”
He emphasized at the end, “Launching a referendum throughout the Palestinian territory regarding the future of that land is very fateful, and so long as that issue remains unsolved the region would remain amid crises and tensions.”/end
