Iran Dismisses Israeli Allegations as Diversion
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian delegation to the UN Disarmament Committee meeting dismissed the Israeli envoy's allegations against Iran, and said such accusations aim to divert the public opinion from the crimes and the terrorist nature of the Zionist regime.
"The Israeli regime attempts to divert attentions from its crimes and terrorist nature by fabricating unfounded allegations against other countries," the Iranian delegation said in a statement.
The Iranian delegation in its statement pointed to the possession of hundreds of atomic warheads by the Zionist regime and its crimes against humanity in the Palestinian territories and other countries, and said such realities are enough for anyone to find out that the Israeli envoy raises such unfounded allegations against others in an attempt to divert attention from the Zionist regime's crimes.
The statement described the Zionist regime as the most vital threat posed to the Middle-East and the global peace and security.
Israel is believed to be the sole possessor of nuclear arms in the Middle East with over 200 ready-to-launch warheads in its stockpile.
Signing up to the NPT would oblige Israel to open up its nuclear facilities to the IAEA.
Regional countries have always called for the nuclear disarmament of Israel as the only impediment to the materialization of a Middle-East free from atomic weapons.
In June, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi blasted the Zionist regime's clandestine nuclear program, and said Israel is the only obstacle to the materialization of a Middle-East free from atomic weapons.
"The Zionist regime is the only obstacle to the creation of a Middle-East free from nuclear weapons," Salehi said, addressing the second international conference on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation in Tehran at the time.
