PGN AGREES TO SUPPLY GAS TO PLTGU CILEGON IN 10 YEARS' TIME
Jakarta, Sept 25 (ANTARA) - Publicly listed gas distributor PT PGN has agreed to supply 30 million cu feet of gas per day (MMSCFD) to Cilegon thermal power plant (PLTGU) in the next ten years starting on March 1, 2009.
Speaking to the press after signing a gas sales purchase agreement with PT PGN here on Thursday, Fahmi Mochtar, president director of state electricity company PT PLN in the capacity as owner of PLTGU Cilegon said the price of gas is US$5.61 per MMBTU.
"The gas supply will save a state subsidy of up to Rp6.4 billion per day or Rp2.3 trillion per year," he said.
PLTGU Cilegon with a capacity of 740 megawatts (MW)needs 110 MMSCFD of gas supplies.
So far, the power plant has received 80 MMSCFD of gas from the CNOOC-operated gas field.
"The remaining 30 MMSCFD are supplied by PT PGN," he said.
Both PLN and PGN have agreed to speed up the construction of compressors and pipelines, so that the gas supply can be started in January 2009.
PGN President Director Priyo Santoso said the gas which will come from gas fields in South Sumatra will be supplied to the power plant through the South Sumatra-West Java transmission pipeline.
The two companies have so far signed contracts for the supply of 243.2 MMSCFD of gas to PLN's thermal power plants consisting of 13.2 MMSCFD to PLTG Batam, 200 MMSCFD to PLTGU Muara Tawar and 30 MMSCFD to PLTGU Tanjung Priok.
