Iran`s United Front of Principlists set to launch election campaign soon

TEHRAN, Nov.6 (MNA) – The head of the United Front of Principlists’ election campaign headquarters announced on Saturday that front will officially start its activities for the March parliamentary elections this week.
The United Front of Principlists, comprised of major principlist groups and figures, has been set up in a bid to achieve unity among principlists for the parliamentary elections.
Alireza Zakani told a press conference that the congress of the United Front of Principlists will be held on November 17.
On the drive to foster unity among principlist groups, he said that the members of the front are making every effort to bring about unity just ahead of the Majlis polls.
He added that principlists will try to arouse election fervor and promote political vitality to guarantee a high turnout in the elections.
On the Islamic Revolution Resistance Front’s non-cooperative approach, he said they have held several meetings with representatives of the principlist heavyweight, expressing hope that they could reach an agreement with them.
Members of the Resistance Front have not attended meetings of the committee so far in protest at the make-up of the committee, stymieing principlists’ efforts to achieve complete unity.
The rapporteur of the United Front of Principlists, Ali Akbar Velayati, also said at the press conference that the front will try to field political figures that have shown their commitment to the principles of the Islamic system.
He also said that the principlists should step up efforts to achieve unity as soon as possible because revolutionaries in the region have adopted the Islamic Revolution as their model and pinned their hopes on the Islamic Republic of Iran.
