M'SIAN HOME MINISTRY PUBLISHES QURAN TEXT

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- The Home Ministry Friday launched its publication of Quran text which could be the main source of reference by
publishers and printers of Quran manuscript in this country.

Its minister Syed Hamid Albar said the move was also in line
with the government's effort to prevent any irregularity as well as the
ministry's function of safeguarding the authenticity of Quran text.

"The effort began in 2006 and 30,000 copies will be produced. The first
batch of 5,000 copies will be distributed to government agencies, mosques, surau
and schools from this month," he said at the launching of the Quran and Yasin
text publication, here Friday.

The text of his speech was read by his deputy Wan Ahmad Farid Wan
Salleh.

Syed Hamid said copies of the Quran would also be distributed to countries
in the region.

Also present at the launching was Perak Mufti Harussani Zakaria,
who is the chairman of the Quran Text Control and Publication Licensing Board
under the ministry.
