Iranian lifter Salimi wins gold, sets world record in snatch

TEHRAN, Nov. 14 (MNA) -- Iranian athlete Behdad Salimi won the gold medal in the men's +105kg division at the World Weightlifting Championships in Paris on Sunday.
Salimi hoisted 214kg in the snatch, bettering countryman Hossein Rezazadeh’s record by one kilogram.
Salimi lifted 250kg in the clean and jerk and won the gold medal with a total of 464kg.
Iranian athlete Sajjad Anoushiravani won the silver medal by lifting 198kg in the snatch and 241kg in the clean and jerk to record a total of 439kg.
Sang-Guen Jeon claimed the bronze medal. The South Korean lifter lifted 192kg in the snatch and 241kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 433kg.
China finished first in the event, followed by Russia and Iran.
Two other Iranian weightlifters won medals at the event.
Kianoush Rostami won the gold in the 85kg category, and Saeid Mohammadpour took the bronze in the 94kg division.
Iran’s final tally was two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze.
