TEHRAN,Nov. 19 (MNA) -- National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) was honored at this week’s the Lloyd's List Awards, Middle East and Indian Subcontinent 2011 by winning the ship operator award.
The NITC’s Chairman and Managing Director Mohammad Souri received the award in an official ceremony in Dubai on Wednesday.
According to the Lloyd's List Awards, Middle East and Indian Subcontinent 2011, which provides a unique platform to reward and celebrate excellence within the region's shipping and maritime industry, NITS was chosen as the best tanker company in the section of Tanker Operator Award.
NITC is a leading independent tanker operator dedicated to the carriage of crude oil cargoes for the international community in a safe, efficient and environmentally friendly fashion.
The company owns and operates one of the world’s largest and most modern fleets of double-hulled tankers, all of which are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and systems in excess of statutory requirements.
Based in Tehran, NITC has overseas offices in Sharjah, UAE and other European locations such as Stockholm and Rotterdam. Founded in 1955, the company was privatized in 2000 when all of its shares passed to the private sector with three pension funds representing more than 5 million people becoming shareholders.
Today the company is a full member of industry body Intertanko (the Independent Tanker Owners’ Association), the ITF (International Transport Federation) and numerous other international organisations.
The company enjoys an exemplary record in matters of Safety and Quality. During the last 15 years it has never had a single Port State Control detention or accident resulting in oil pollution.
NITC also has been recognized both nationally and internationally for its Environmental efforts and has committed to cutting the emissions of its fleet by 28% in line with efforts to reduce global warming.
Its commitment to Corporate Responsibility is further demonstrated by a strong emphasis on the training, welfare and career progression of all its employees. NITC operates its own award-winning Maritime Training Centre and Marine College for seafarers on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
