SOME 70 PEOPLE SUFFER FROM DIARRHEA IN TANGERANG
Tangerang, Banten Province, Sept. 28 (ANTARA) - Some 70 residents of Curug sub district, Tangerang District, were suffering from acute diarrhea, a local health officer said.
"Based on a temporary diagnose, they have been infected with virus," Head of the Tangerang Health Service's Disease Prevention and Eradication Section Yully Soenar Dewanti said here on Sunday.
The latest data of the Curug community health center (Puskemas) showed that there were still 42 patients being hospitalized for diarrhea, among other things at Tangerang Public Hospital. Some 28 others had been allowed to go home as they recovered
The virus causing diarrhea started to spread out on Tuesday (Sept. 23), when three residents had to be rushed to a nearby Puskesmas for diarrhea, she said.
On Wednesday (Sept. 24), two villagers were hospitalized, and again 14 others on Thursday, 15 on Friday, 32 on Saturday (Sept. 27) and four others on Sunday (Sept. 28).
The diarrhea patients were among other things from Cukanggalih, Curug Kulon, Kadujaya, Panongan, Ciakar, Peusar Binong, Bitung,
Sentul, Soka, Rancagong, and Sukabakti villages.
Tangerang District Head Ismet Iskandar on Saturday declared the situation in Curug subdistrict as an extraordinary happening of diarrhea outbreak.
Yully Soenar Dewanti explained that the Tangerang health authorities still investigated the cause of the disease. She however suspected the virus was spread through the air.
