Iranian official says EU threats of new Iran sanctions are psy-war

TEHRAN, Dec. 1 (MNA) – The Foreign Ministry said threats issued recently by certain European countries to impose more sanctions against Iran are part of a “psychological warfare’ against the Islamic Republic. “It is now 32 years that the Iranian nation has been facing sanctions imposed by certain European countries and therefore is familiar with the sanctions,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast said in an interview on Wednesday. “The Iranian nation knows how to follow its path strongly, and the issues will not make the slightest impact on the country’s ever-increasing progress in various spheres,” Mehmanparast added. He went on to say that most European countries that speak of sanctions against Iran have trivial trade interactions or even no banking cooperation with the Islamic Republic at all. Therefore, such threats are mostly propagandistic and part of psychological warfare against Iran, he stated. According to the Wall Street Journal, the European Union signaled it will recommend additional sanctions on Iran, including a possible oil-import ban, during a meeting of foreign ministers set for Thursday in Brussels. On November 21, the United States, Britain and Canada imposed unilateral sanctions on Iran's energy and financial sectors after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released its latest report on Tehran's nuclear program on November 8.
