Tehran exhibit hangs works of avant-garde artist Mohsen Vaziri-Moqaddam
TEHRAN,Dec. 10 (MNA) -- A selection of paintings and sculptures created by Mohsen Vaziri-Moqaddam is currently on display during a showcase at the Fravahar Gallery.
A total of 55 artworks created by the 87-year-old artist in different periods of his career are on display at the showcase.
He has selected most of the works from collections of collages and paintings created with sand and glue.
In primary school, Vaziri-Moqaddam was fond of geography and music. He continued his education at the University of Tehran’s Faculty of Fine Arts. In 1955, he set off for Italy, where he studied at the Rome Academy of Fine Arts.
He showed an inclination toward sculpture in the late 1960s, which was the most significant part of his life. His unique sculptures during this period, which transferred the sense of touch to visual lines, were unparalleled in Italy.
In his career, Vaziri-Moqaddam has created most of his abstract forms and designs using the media of sand, metal, plastic and wood.
The Italy-based artist was commended for his works by the Rome Municipality and was presented with the European Artist of the Year 2005 award in Rome on December 14, 2005.
The showcase will run until December 26 at the gallery located at No.2 Golestan Blvd, off Africa Blvd.
