PRESIDENT TO CONTINUE ENCOURAGING INNOVATIONS IN FOOD, ENERGY PRODUCTION
Jakarta, Sept. 29 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said he would continue to encourage the public to make innovations in the development of food production and alternative energy.
"I will continue to encourage whoever, including those having strange or even crazy ideas that may sound impossible. But , of course, in the end, the ideas must really prove useful to the people ," he told around 100 journalists invited to have an iftar (fast breaking) reception at the State Palace here late Sunday.
The President said media reports on the 'Blue Energy' and 'Supertoy' paddy projects had gone out of line because they had portrayed him as a president easily fooled by failed innovations.
However, Yudhoyono said, the 'Blue energy' project was not a failure but a process that was not yet finished because there was still a problem in using electricity to separate H2O and O2.
"It was understood that Blue Energy was to become a factual product if proven. When it works than we will believe it. What has happed so far is that it is not yet finished so why make it an issue?. In any country, research needs to be repeated many times," he said.
The same misjudgment had happened to the Supertoy paddy variety which was actually still at a research and trial stage, according to Yudhoyono.
