Top Islamic artworks on display at Paris show
TEHRAN,Dec.14 (MNA) -- The Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris is playing host to an exhibition of Islamic artworks created by 10 top Iranian and Arab artists selected for the Jameel Prize 2011.
Awarded every two years, the Jameel Prize is an international art award for contemporary artists and designers inspired by Islamic traditions of crafts and designs initiated by the Victoria & Albert Museum in Britain.
Algerian born Rachid Koraichi, who won the £25,000 Jameel Prize along with nine other artists and designers, are currently displaying their artworks in Paris until February 26, 2012.
Iranians Babak Golkar, Monir Shahrudi Farmanfarmaian, Bita Ghezelayaq, Sudi Sharifi and Hedyeh Shafie, as well as Noor Ali Chagani and Aisha Khalid from Pakistan, Hayv Kahraman from Iraq and Hazem El Mestikawy of Egypt are the nine other short-listed artists.
The V&A first hosted the exhibit in September. The exhibition next began its international tour with its arrival in Paris.
The Casa Árabe in Madrid will be the next destination in spring/summer 2012, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston in autumn 2012, and the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University in winter 2012/13.
