Tehran museum hanging paintings on Ashura

TEHRAN,Dec.20(MNA) -- Paintings featuring the “Karbala Saga” are currently hung on the walls of the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts (TMCA) during a showcase which will run for one month. Entitled “Mourning of Paintings”, artworks created by contemporary painters are on display at the exhibit which will run until January 18, the secretariat of the event Amir Abdolhosseini mentioned in a press release. He said that the majority of artworks on display at the showcase are paintings but a number of Persian paintings and teahouse paintings are also among the artworks. “We intended to display artworks which have a religious heroic toward Ashura at the event and also to commemorate great artists,” he mentioned. The showcase is held on the occasion of the mourning season of Muharram during which Iranian Shia Muslims are mourning the great loss of Imam Hussein (AS) on the first ten days of Muharram. Ashura is the tenth day of the lunar month of Muharram and the day Imam Hussein (AS) was martyred. He said that calligraphy artworks and posters went on display during previous showcases and it was deemed necessary to hold an exhibition of painting. The artworks are borrowed from storehouses of the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts, the Tehran Art Bureau and also private collections. Artworks by Hasssan Esmaeilzadeh, Reza Yasavoli, Morteza Momayyez, Habibollah Sadeqi, Parviz Kalantari, Kazem Chalipa, Jamshid Haqiqatshenas and several other artists are on display at the showcase.
