IAEA former director says Iran does not have a track record of aggression
TEHRAN, Dec.21 (MNA) – The former director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Hans Blix dismissed the claim that Iran may have developed nuclear weapons, saying Iran does not have a track record of aggression.
“I am somehow doubtful that one can scare a country away from going for nuclear weapons. Carrots are better for persuading them,” he told RT in an interview published on Tuesday in reference to some Western countries’ attempts to compel Iran to abandon its nuclear program.
He also said that he does not believe Iran actually has a nuclear weapon, adding, “Iran does not have a track record of aggression.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said, “Any kind of attack (on Iran) risks a total confrontation in the Middle East. The Iranian (authorities) are not sitting to tittle-tattle, they will have a counter attack and maybe they will drag the U.S. into the war. It is a terrible fire they are playing with.”
“In the case of Iraq, they talked about weapons that in fact did not exist. Today they are talking about Iranian intentions (to have nuclear weapons) that may or may not exist,” he added.
