Photo exhibit on famine-stricken Somalia kicks off in Tehran museum

TEHRAN,Dec.29 (MNA) -- Tehran’s Palestine Museum of Contemporary Art is displaying a collection of photos by Saeid Faraji on the famine-wracked people of Somalia under the title “The Last Sons of Somalia”. Faraji took the photos in his 15-day journey to capital Mogadishu to depict part of the lives of the famine-stricken . Iran has so far arranged several programs to raise funds for the famine-wracked people of Somalia including photo exhibits. Photographer Faraji has centered his personal interests on documenting the disasters. He had previously covered the Israeli 33-Day War of 2006 against Lebanon. His book “Exchange” contains the events happening in the war as well as the process of exchanging the prisoners of the war in 2008. On July 20, the United Nations declared a famine in two regions of southern Somalia owing to the worst drought in decades, and appealed for urgent resources to assist millions of people in desperate need of help. Iran also had sent several shipments of humanitarian aid to Somalia over the past months. The exhibit, which opened on Tuesday, will be running for two weeks at the museum located at 64 Mozaffar Bros. St., off Taleqani Ave., near Felestin Square.
