RAMADHAN IS PRACTICE FOR LIFE : NOTED PREACHER

Jakarta, Oct 1 (ANTARA) - Ramadhan is a practice for life as it trains man to control his or her passions and desires, said noted preacher Zainudin MZ in his sermon at the Idul Fitri service at the Dian Almahri mosque in Depok on Wednesday.

Zainudin said Muslims were supposed to be a better person than 30 days ago when they entered the holy fasting month of Ramadhan.

"During Ramadhan we were trained to control our desires and lust and thus to become a better person," Zainudin said in front of an audience of 30,000 packed in the gold-domed mosque in Depok district, south of Jakarta.

He said if man's will and capability do not match a person can be more savage than a beast because nowadays people tend to know a lot but they also did not know many other things. Many people these days also think they are smart but they are not smart enough to feel what other people feel.

"To forgive is more noble than asking for forgiveness, so if two Muslims meet face to face and shake hands, Allah will erase their sins against each other," he said.

At the end of the service, many Muslims took the opportunity of posing for pictures with the Dian Almahri mosque as background. Many of the visitors were impressed by the building which has a floor space of 8,000 square meters. In fact, the mosque has become a tourist attraction since it was opened on Desember 31, 2006.

"This mosque is magnificent because of its architecture. Its golden dome is an attraction in itself," said Ozy who had come to the mosque with his family.

Compared to Istiqlal in central Jakarta, this mosque had a better view and the staff were very nice and parking arrangements were good, the University of Indonesia (UI) student said.
