EASTERN FIGURE CALLS ON PEOPLE NOT TO SUPPORT SBY-JK WITHOUT RESERVE
Jakarta, OCT 1 (ANTARA) - Figures grouped in the Eastern Region Economic Awakening Movement (Tata KTI) have called on the people not to hastily give their support to the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY)-Jusuf Kalla (JK) ticket in the 2009 presidential election.
"Let us first evaluate the performance of the SBY-JK pair comprehensively, objectively and using various parameters before deciding to support or not to support them," Laode Ida, one of the Tata KTI figures, said at an Idul Fitri open house at the residence of House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Agung Laksono here on Wednesday.
Ida who is also deputy chairman of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) said, soon after the Idul Fitri celebration was over, Tata KTI would hold a meeting and produce a statement in reponse to President SBY's recent declaration that he would run again for the presidency in the 2009 election with JK as his running mate.
"I think this is normal in a modern democracy. We cannot immediately just support certain leaders blindly and fanatically. Let us educate the people in playing politics rationally, progressively, democratically and in civilized ways," he said.
Coordinator of Tata KTI Zaenal Bintang said the organization that gathers activists, culturalists, intellectuals, NGO activists, businessmen and other figures of various backgrounds would not again be easily influenced to support any particular national leader.
"In essence, we will only support those who are consistent and have a strong commitment to supporting development of the eastern regions. This also applies to political parties. So political parties that have a clear commitment and are consistent in supporting development of the eastern regions will certainly get support from the people in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Nusa Tenggara to Papua," he said.
Zaenal Bintang criticized leaders for having made various hollow rhetorics in the past and given nothing to the eastern regions which were now more left behind in national development.
