FM Davutoglu and Speaker of Iranian Majles visit Mevlana Museum

KONYA (A.A) - January 13, 2012 - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majles) of Iran, Ali Larijani, visited the Mevlana Museum in the central Anatolian province of Konya on Friday where they also watched a performance of the Whirling Dervishes. Speaking to reporters after visiting the Mevlana Museum, Davutoglu said that he was honored to host Larijani in both Ankara and Konya. Larijani, in his part, said that Mevlana was a common value of the Turkish and Iranian peoples. When you visit Konya, you can see how close the Turks and Iranians are to each other, Larijani said. Mevlana, who devoted himself to the pursuit of Sufi mysticism, was the spiritual founder of the Mevlevi order of Whirling Dervishes and he was justly regarded as the supreme master. The Masnavi or Masnavi-I Ma'navi, written in Persian by Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi is one of the best known and most influential works of both Sufism and Persian literature. Comprising six books of poems that amount to more than 50,000 lines, it pursues its way through 424 stories that illustrate man's predicament in his search for God.
