Ceremony held at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium for late football player

ISTANBUL (A.A) - January 15, 2012 - A ceremony was held at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul for the late football player of Fenerbahce team, Lefter Kucukandonyadis, on Sunday. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan also participated in the ceremony. Kucukandonyadis, who passed away on January 13, will be laid to rest in Buyukada. Born on January 16, 1924, Kucukandonyadis was a Turkish football player of Greek descent. He was recognized as one of the greatest footballers to play for Turkey.He was the first Turkish footballer to play abroad, playing during 1951–1953 for ACF Fiorentina in Italy and OGC Nice in France. Kucukandonyadis scored in all a total of 423 goals in 615 games for Fenerbahce. He played 50 times for the Turkish national football team, 9 of them as the captain.
