UN special adviser for Cyprus informs UN Security Council on trilateral meeting

UNITED NATIONS (A.A) - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's special adviser for Cyprus Alexander Downer informed the UN Security Council members on the trilateral meeting in Greentree, New York on Wednesday. President Dervis Eroglu of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon held a trilateral meeting on Cyprus in Greentree on Monday and Tuesday. UN officials quoted Downer as saying that a limited progress was achieved in the trilateral meeting and it was discouraging, adding that but he was still optimistic about the Cyprus negotiation process. Security Council members said that they appreciated efforts by UN SG Ban and Downer for a solution to the Cyprus issue. The UN chief said that he could call for an international conference end of April or the beginning of May provided that his top adviser in Cyprus presented a "positive report."   (Reporting by Ozlem Sahin Sakar)
