Homs revolutionary council says 40 people have been killed
ISTANBUL (A.A) - February 6, 2012 - A member of Homs Revolutionary Council said on Monday that 40 people were killed in ongoing clashes in Syria.
Abdurrahman Batra said clashes had been intensified in Baba Amro, a Turkmen neighborhood in Homs, and 40 people had been killed so far.
"Eight buildings, including a four-storey building, have been demolished and Musab bin Zubeyr and Abdulkadir Geylani mosques have been hit in Baba Amro," Batra told AA correspondent in Istanbul.
Batra said Baba Amro was under siege and heavy gunfire, and noted that the injured could not be treated and they were dying of blood loss.
"Death toll is rising each passing moment," Batra also said.
Moreover, Syrian Turkmen community's spokesperson Ziyat Hassan said Baba Amro had been the engine of resistance in Syria, and the regime was trying to oppress it.
Hassan said Turkmens had given more than 600 victims so far, and noted that Syrian opposition wanted Turkey to stop that bloodshed as Turkey had a historical responsibility there.
"Neither Obama nor Sarkozy or any other person but Turkey should solve this issue," Hassan said.
Hassan also said Turkey should stand by the oppressed.
