ictQATAR Honours Innovators in E-Learning

Doha, February 08 (QNA) - The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) has honored forward looking innovators in e-learning at a ceremony held at the Four Seasons Hotel. Four organizations in Qatar were recognized for making significant progress in integrating e-learning into their development programs; two public sector organizations, the Supreme Council of Health and Qatar University and two from the private sector, Qatar National Bank and Chiyoda Almana Engineering. Five Special Achievement Awards were also given to organizations that excelled in specific areas of adopting e-learning in the workplace. The Ministry of Interior won the ICT Skills Development award, Qatar Foundation won Blended Learning and the Almana Group won the IT Enterprise award. Other awards included Long-term Adoption of e-Learning picked up by Qatar Petroleum and the Qatar Statistics Authority was recognized with the e-Learning Adoption in Government Sector award. "E-learning is an integral part of helping organizations continuously develop their employees. The wide adoption of e-learning across sectors in Qatar shows the commitment organizations have in investing in their most valuable resource, their people. It s my pleasure to congratulate all of our award recipients today and thank each and every organization that is part of our e-learning program," said Reem Al-Mansoori, ICT Skills Development Manager at ictQATAR. ictQATAR s ICT skills department has built up the National e-Learning Portal (QNEP) program over the past three years and now has over 60 organizations actively using QNEP courses. The program has introduced web-based training courses to thousands of working professionals across Qatar through its digital learning system and library of more than 4000 online courses. Since 2009 37,000 online courses have been accessed by 8000 learners in Qatar. "The success of e-learning in Qatar is attributed to the strong interest of organizations in technology based learning due to its flexibility and cost effectiveness," said Nader Subaih, QNEP Project Manager. The annual e-Learning Leaders event is for managers and executives who have supported and integrated e-learning into their workplace with a view to enhancing the skills-set of employees. The event was also an opportunity to highlight how ictQATAR will facilitate e-Learning moving forward. The Lifelong Learning team atictQATAR will partner with organizations to encourage e-learning through regular events, services and reports.ictQATAR will disseminate best practice and help build a network of e-learning practitioners with the goal of bringing more innovation to e-learning technologies in Qatar.(END)
