Turkey to launch initiative for humanitarian aid to Syria

WASHINGTON (A.A) - Turkey's foreign minister said on Friday that Turkey would launch an initiative at the United Nations (UN) Office in Geneva for humanitarian aid to Syria. Ahmet Davutoglu said Turkey would launch the initiative in order to provide humanitarian aid flow to Geneva. "We are determined to make the UN system active (regarding developments in Syria)," Davutoglu told reporters in Washington. Davutoglu said he would have a phone talk with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday, and Turkey would continue its initiatives not only to bring up the issue to the General Assembly but also to launch a humanitarian aid to Syria. Minister Davutoglu said he believed he could make significant progress on holding an international meeting or establishing an international platform regarding developments in Syria either on Monday or Tuesday.
