We want other countries to join EU, says Czech President Klaus

-MERSIN (A.A) - President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus said Wednesday that they knocked on the doors of the European Union (EU) for many years and that they understood Turkey's situation and thoughts. President Klaus and his delegation visited the Governor of southern province of Mersin, Hasan Basri Guzeloglu. Speaking to reporters in Guzeloglu's office, President Klaus said that Mersin was a dynamic city and had Turkey's biggest port. I believe that Mersin can cooperate with our businesspeople. My delegation includes the Minister of Industry and Trade as well as the Czech Republic's most successful businesspeople. I do wish that we would receive solid results, Klaus said. Touching on Turkey's EU process, President Klaus said that he will always support Turkey's EU bid. "We knocked on the doors of the EU for long years and we understand Turkey's situation and thoughts. We were successful in knocking the EU door. We do not wish to see this door closed. We want other countries to join the EU," Klaus noted. Mersin Governor Guzeloglu, in his part, said that they were honored to host President Klaus and his delegation in Mersin. Mersin was the first city that President Klaus visited after Ankara in Turkey and we are honored by this fact. The opening of the Czech Honorary Consulate General in Mersin pleased us all. President Klaus's visit to Mersin has contributed to our goal of making Mersin a global city, Guzeloglu also said.
