Palestinian journalist says Gaza will be under complete siege without Turkey

ANKARA (A.A) - Abdel Bari Atwan, the editor-in chief of the London-based Arab newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi, said that Gaza would be under a complete siege without efforts of Turkey. Assessing the recent developments in the Middle East to AA, Atwan said that only Turkey was extending support to Palestinian people, adding that after Mavi Marmara attack, the situation in Gaza became a little better. Turkey partially broke the Israeli siege, said Atwan, adding that however people of Gaza and Palestine were still in difficulty. Regarding Turkey's role in the region, Atwan said that it was Turkey which was and would be affected most by the incidents in the region. Noting that Turkey took place in the heart of Middle East and it had historical, cultural and economic ties with regional countries, Atwan said that Turkey could contribute to the solution in the region thanks to the efforts of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Commenting on Arab Spring, Atwan said that Arab Spring was an inevitable result, adding that there had been a high unemployment and economic difficulty in Arab world which brought up a revolution in those countries. He said that people's will for a change was understandable and right. (Reporting by Halit Gulsen)
