Turkey works on bill on migration, asylum
ANKARA (A.A) - February 23, 2012 - Turkey's interior minister said on Thursday that the government was working on a bill on migration and asylum.
Idris Naim Sahin said the government was working on a bill on migration and asylum, as well as legal and illegal work of foreigners in Turkey so that they would be in line with international standards and principles of the Office of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
"The ministry has prepared a bill on international protection of foreigners and it will be presented to parliament soon," Sahin told AA correspondent in an exclusive interview.
Sahin said many people were coming to Turkey from neighboring countries or Middle Eastern and African countries just as a trip but they were then participating in labor life legally or illegally.
Moreover, Sahin said some provinces could be granted metropolitan status according to results of census to take place at the end of 2013, and 13 provinces were likely to become metropolises by the end of 2013.
