"Turkish Coffee" gets identity

ANKARA (A.A) - Turkish Patent Institute (TPI) has said it would register "Turkish Coffee" if it would not receive any objection in six months to the application that had been made for a geographical signature to the coffee. The notice on the registration application which asks preservation of geographical signature for Turkish coffee has been published on the Official Gazette on February 29. According to the notice, one of the best known Turkish coffee brands, "Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi, his child Ahmet Efendi, Kurukahveci ve Ortaklar Limited Partnership", had applied to TPI on March 4, 2011, asking the TPI to give geographical indication to Turkish coffee. Is stated in the notice, additive and flavoring agents can not be used in the Turkish coffee which has different roasting, grinding, packaging, production, and cooking methods.
