Pakistani MP Welcomes Elections In Iran

Islamabad, March 3, IRNA – A Pakistani lawmaker on Friday welcomed elections in Iran adding that the democratic process is continuing in the Islamic Republic without any hindrance. Talking to IRNA, Senator S.M Zafar of Pakistan Muslim League-Q said parliamentary elections will further strengthen democratic process in Iran. The political leader said the electoral process in Iran is so strong that the elections were not postponed even in difficult times. 'The elections in Iran have always been conducted in a transparent manner which is a good omen for the rest of the world,' said the Senator. The politician was of the view that the democracy in Iran is very impressive as compared to the democracies of the Muslim world. S.M Zafar added that democratic norms are very strong in Iran having deep roots in Public. 'People have faith in their democracy,' said the lawmaker. He said that elections are being held in Iran under the principles laid down in the Constitution. 'Iranian democracy is different form the western democracy but has been supported by the Iranian nation,' the lawmaker stated. He endorsed the statement of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei that the Iranian nation will demonstrate its firm will to fight enemies by massive participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections. S.M Zafar said today that the elections are being held at a very crucial time and will negate all western perceptions against Iran. 'The election will provide Iranian nation an opportunity to express their unity on national issues,' he said. Expressing his views, the Senator said that the US President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister will have to change their approach towards Iran in upcoming meeting./end
