Kazakhstan to hold population census in 2009

Astana, 7 October 2008, (Khabar) - The Republic's Statistical Agency has begun preparations for the 2009 population census which is scheduled to take place from February through to March next year. The nation-wide population census is held once every ten years to display more precise statistical data. In compliance with the latest information provided by the agency as of the 1st of January 2008, 15.5 million people live in Kazakhstan.

During the
campaign, all the adult population of the Republic will need to answer 45
questions with all the information provided to be confidential. According to
the deputy chairman of the Kazakh Statistical Agency, Nurman Bayanov, next
year's census information is to be processed through a scanning system.
Close to 9500 interviewers will receive special ID's as well as a
distinctive vest and scarf. Presently, all interviewers are taking a
training course with the lists of all populated areas and houses around the
Republic being formed.

- The country will be divided into regions where the census will take place
with special inspection and calculation points to be formed as well. The
main aim of the campaign is to know the size of the forth-coming census in
order to avoid mistakes.
