Woman Detained, 3.1Kg Drug Seized At Penang International Airport

BUTTERWORTH (Malaysia), March 12 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysian Customs Department detained a woman and seized 3.1kg of drug, believed to be syabu, at the Penang International Airport here Sunday. Its Penang director, Zulkifli Yahya, said the woman, a local, was detained at the airport's arrival hall after a scan on one of her baggage produced a suspicious image. "The baggage was then sent to the Narcotic Unit for further inspection which then found it to contain nine capal slippers containing crystal-like powder, believed to be drug. "The drug was hidden in the heels of the capal which had been modified," he told a media conference here Monday. He believed the woman, in her 20s, was a drug mule. Zulkifli said the woman, an unemployed, arrived on a flight from Dhaka, Bangladesh, with transit in Singapore, and arrived here Sunday. "She claimed that she took the capal to be sold in Penang," he added. The woman has been detained for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act. -- BERNAMA
