DMDI Hopes To Continue Upholding Malay Language To The World - Chief Minister

ALOR GAJAH (Melaka, Malaysia), March 13 (Bernama) -- The Malay World Islamic World (DMDI) hopes to continue being a medium to uphold Malay Language at an international level, said Melaka Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam. Mohd Ali, who is also its president, said the use of the language in the world is impressive with over two billion speakers worldwide. "In Holland, for example, Malay Language is being offered as a subject in schools and institutions of higher learning," he said in a speech during the closing of the 2012 DMDI Malay Language Oratory Competition, here Monday. He said this proves that Malay Language is a language family, language of unity and a language that unites all races. A total of 23 contestants from five countries - Brunei, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Cambodia and Singapore - participated in the competition. The four-day event which began last Friday saw Indonesians Aminatus Zudiyah and Miftahul Khairiah Harisman awarded first and second place respectively, while Saufiyani from Cambodia came in third. -- BERNAMA
