M'sian Shuttlers Daren, Zulfadli Cruise Into Swiss Open Second Round

KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysian singles shuttlers Liew Daren and Zulfadli Zulkifli cruised into the second round of the Swiss Open in Basel, Switzerland on Wednesday. Daren, who overcame France's Brice Leverdez 22-20, 21-13, will take on Hsu Jen Hao of Taiwan while world junior number two Zulfadli is scheduled to meet Stilian Makarski of Bulgaria after defeating Tan Yuhan of Belgium 21-14, 21-13. Among the stars at the championship are world number three Chen Long of China and former world champion Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark, both of whom have also sailed into second round. Meanwhile in qualifying round, Malaysian men's doubles pair Goh V. Shem and Teo Kok Siang beat teammates Mak Hee Chun/Tan Wee Kiong 14-21, 21-19, 21-19 to secure a slot in the main draw. Malaysian women's doubles Ng Hui Lin and Ng Hui Ern also made it into main draw after defeating Johanna Goliszewski/Carla Nelte of Germany 16-21, 21-12, 21-14. National women's singles player Tee Jing Ying however failed to advance into the main draw after being shown the exit by Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand 20-22, 15-21. Other Malaysians in the tournament are mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying, women's doubles pairs of Chin Eei Hui/Wong Pei Tty and Vivian Hoo/Woon Khe Wei, as well as men's doubles pair Gan Teik Chai and Tan Bin Shen.
