M'sia-S'pore Inter-Govt Industrial Working Panel Will Meet Soon, Says Minister
JOHOR BAHARU (Johor, Malaysia), March 14 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia-Singapore
Inter-Governmental Industrial Working Committee will hold its first meeting soon
to discuss trade and investment issues confronting the two neighbours.
Malaysian International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed said
the meeting would study the proposal to establish a dedicated industrial zone in
Malaysia for Singaporean investors to seek business opportunities, among others.
He said many Singapore companies are keen to expand their businesses to
Malaysia but they were hampered by space constraints.
"They see Iskandar Malaysia as one of the best locations (to do business),"
he told reporters after meeting investment agencies in Johor (south state of
Malaysia) at the Iskandar Regional Development Authority's office here
Wednesday.
Mustapa said the committee was formed following a request by the business
fraternity in Singapore, including the Singapore Business Federation, to find
new business opportunities in the Iskandar Malaysia economic corridor.
As initial preparations for the meeting, a special meeting would be held on
Friday with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) to prepare
detailed information on the matter, he said.
