Malaysia And Myanmar To Enhance Bilateral Relations

KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 (Bernama) -- Foreign Minister Anifah Aman left for Myanmar in an effort to forge closer relations and cooperation in various fields between the two countries. A statement from the Foreign Ministry Wednesday said that during the three-day visit, Anifah was expected to pay a courtesy call on Myanmar president Thein Sein, as well as his Myanmar counterpart, U Wunna Maung Lwin. According to the statement, Anifah would also meet with the Minister for Economic Planning and Development, U Tin Naing Thein and would discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of importance to Malaysia and Myanmar. Malaysia and Myanmar have close relations and economic cooperation in various fields such as trade and investment, technical cooperation, tourism, human capital development, plantations and agriculture. The total value of bilateral trade between Malaysia and Myanmar for the year 2011 was RM2.43 billion, which was an increase of 26.8 per cent compared with 2010. (US$1=RM3.02) -- BERNAMA
