Sarawak To Develop World's Largest Halal Hub In Tanjung Manis

By Hamdan Ismail KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), March 16 (Bernama) -- Sarawak plans to create the world's largest and most advanced halal hub in Tanjung Manis in Mukah Division, the state's Second Minister for Resource Planning and Environment, Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said Thursday. Mukah Division is one of the eleven administrative divisions in Sarawak, east Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. Sarawak Information Department, in a statement Thursday, quoted him as saying that an area of 77,000 hectares in Tanjung Manis has been earmarked for the halal hub, which would have a special green economic zone and with good connectivity. Delivering his keynote address at a Sarawak Investment and Timber Selling Seminar and Business Meeting in Mumbai, India, he said the hub offered an ideal investment destination for various sectors such as feed-milling and fertiliser, biotechnology, aquaculture, food processing, fruits and vegetable farming and horticulture. Awang Tengah believed that the Indian investors could be involved in some of the potential activities in the hub, which formed part of the economic emphasis in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) area. SCORE is one of the fastest growing regional economic corridors in Malaysia, and to date, has attracted about US$10 billion (about RM30.58 billion) worth of investments, he added. -- BERNAMA
