Ultimate Compliment For Jimmy Choo From Younger Generation

KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 (Bernama) -- Prof Dr Jimmy Choo is one proud and contented shoe designer of international repute. Malaysia's Tourism Ambassador probably feels that way because he receives, from time to time, the ultimate compliment from the younger generation. Previously, the luxury shoe designer has heard the younger generation wanting to become a doctor, lawyer or engineer, when asked for their choice of career. Now, their choice of career appears to have veered towards shoe designing. "Today, if I ask them, they will reply, 'I want to become like you (show designer). "I feel very happy to hear that...at least, I know that they want to be a good shoe maker or perhaps a designer like me, and that I have brought a good vision for them, in terms of their future living," said Choo. He was speaking to Bernama after the preview of his gallery, 'Sogno Gallery', during the first day of the 1Malaysia International Shoe Festival at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here Thursday. Also present at the event was Tourism Minister Dr Ng Yen Yen. Choo said there were many young shoe-makers who were talented, creative and innovative as could be seen from their stylish shoe creations at the Malaysia Footwear Design Competition. For the shoe festival, the master footwear designer brought eight pairs of his latest shoes with the theme of the Year of the Dragon, including Gold Dragon and Red Dragon. He also advised those who were interested in shoe making to work hard, never stop learning and be always willing to accept criticism. "I always tell myself that I'm not the best...therefore, it would encourage me to work and learn more from other's experiences...once you believe you are the best, you will stop your learning process," he said. Choo said the four-day shoe festival, held for the third time, would boost the Malaysian economy, especially in the tourism sector, adding that the visitors were from, among others, Japan, Hong Kong, China and Germany. -- BERNAMA
