Penang Halal Hub Signs MoU With Halal Serbia

GEORGE TOWN (Penang, Malaysia), April 6 (Bernama) -- The Penang International Halal Hub has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Halal Serbia to widen the halal industries in the two regions. The MoU was signed between Penang state Executive Councillor in charge of Islamic religious affairs, Abdul Malik Kassim and Chief Executive Manager of Halal Serbia, Mustafa Jusufspahic. Abdul Malik said the MoU would certainly benefit both Penang and Serbia and pave the way to develop various sectors such as trading and investment, education as well as tourism. "Serbia is an established Islamic country with close to 600,000 Muslim population, comprises more than 100 companies that are implementing halal standards and it presents good opportunities for us to expand the Penang halal industry," he told reporters after the signing ceremony here Friday. He also said both parties have also agreed to develop institutions for the development of halal audit and certification procedures to ensure the integrity of halal products. "The MoU marks yet another of Halal Penang's milestone in efforts to turn Penang as a Global Halal Centre," he added. -- BERNAMA
