KTMB Plans To Introduce Non-Stop 'Express Commuter System'

KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 (Bernama) -- Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is looking into the possibility of introducing the 'Express Commuter System' from Seremban and Pelabuhan Klang to KL Sentral. KTMB or Malayan Railways Limited is the main rail operator in Peninsular Malaysia. Its president, Dr Aminuddin Adnan said here Thursday, the system involved non-stop journeys which could save up to 20 minutes in travel time. "The proposal is still being discussed and studied," he said after accompanying Federal Territory and Urban Wellbeing Minister Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin on a MyKomuter train from the Pantai Dalam Station to the Bank Negara Station. In the meantime, Aminuddin said 11 sets of the MyKomuter train which had been operational since March would be joined by 27 more by July and would enable travel frequency to be cut down from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes. Raja Nong Chik said he received positive reaction from users of the commuter who praised the action of the government in improving public transport services through the National Key Result Areas (NKRA) Urban Public Transport Lab. "I am very satisfied with the facility. In fact, consumers need not travel on congested trains because six coaches are allocated to a train," he said. -- BERNAMA
