Police Traacking Down International Baby-Sellig Syndicate

KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 (Bernama) -- Police are tracking down an international baby-selling syndicate following the arrest of six suspects including the parents of a baby as well as a Singaporean woman, last Friday. Federal Police CID director, Mohd Bakri Zinin said the police were identifying other syndicates involved in the international network. "We are still looking for a local woman believed to be a mastermind in the syndicate and investigations are being carried out to determine the modus operandi of the syndicate," he told reporters, here Thursday. He said police believed the syndicate that was crippled recently, had sold more than three infants with a selling price of between RM6,000 and RM28,000. Last Friday, the police busted a baby-selling syndicate which had been actively operating for the past three months following the arrest of six suspects including a Singaporean, who was paralysed in one leg, in a raid at a restaurant in Jaya Jusco Bukit Tinggi here. In the raid at about 11.30am, following information from the public, police had rescued two baby boys out of four babies traded by the syndicate. The other two babies were believed to have been sold. All four suspects, aged between 20 and 50 are now being remanded for investigation under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007. (US$1=RM3.07) -- BERNAMA
