Rexy Quits, Accepts Offer In The Philippines
KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- Rexy Mainaky Thursday announced his
resignation as badminton coach of the national women's doubles team.
He also announced that he had accepted an offer to be the coaching director
of the Philippines Badminton Association for two years beginning next month.
He said he had informed the Badminton Association of Malaysia of his
decision to quit last month after the Swiss Open Championship.
"My decision is final," he told reporters after attending a meeting of BAM's
programmes committee at the National Sports Council (NSC) complex in Bukit Jalil
here.
Saying he was very happy with the good treatment extended to him by BAM and
NSC over the seven years he had served in Malaysia, Rexy said his decision to
head to the Philippines was because he wanted new challenges and had in fact
turned down more lucrative offers from several other countries.
"It's not about the offers and figures, I have received offers from
Indonesia, England and Russia, with an offer of a montly income of about
USD12,000 (RM36,000) but I want the challenge," he said.
"In the Philippines, it could be challenging for me to look around and get
young players aged 12-17 years.
"My target is to improve and bring them to high level performances. Now I go
to the country (Philipines) where badminton is not yet very popular, so that is
the challenge," he said.
Rexy joined as coach with BAM on July 7 2005 his contract ends in June this
year.
Meanwhile, BAM honorary-secretary Ng Chin Chai said the national badminton
body received the resignation letter from Rexy last month.
"We discussed about it and we accept his resignation," he said.
