Retain Indian Culture And Traditions In Weddings - Deputy Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- The younger Indian generation in Malaysia have been urged to retain the community's wedding customs and traditions, said Information, Communication and Culture deputy minister Maglin Dennis D'Cruz (left). He said traditions which need to be maintained include not only attire and food, but also the way the wedding is carried out. "We want to remind our Indian youths not to forget tradition. From wedding exhibitions such as this they will get an assortment of ideas for clothing, food and much more," he told reporters after officiating the Indian Wedding Fair 2012 at the Mid Valley Megamall Exhibition Centre, here Friday. He said the ministry through its agencies also implemented various efforts to encourage the public to preserve tradition in their weddings. "At Kraftangan Malaysia (Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation) we have such exhibitions each year, not for any specific race but for all races under the 1Malaysia concept," he said. The three-day event which ends this Sunday is open to the public from 10am to 10pm, gathering about 100 exhibitors offering services such as fashion and accessories, makeup, wedding reception locations, furniture, wedding planner services and honeymoon destinations among others.
