Malaysia Expresses Concern Over Sudan-South Sudan Border Conflict

KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is profoundly concerned with the escalating clashes on the border between the Republic of Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan. The Foreign Ministry of Malaysia in a statement on Monday, said Malaysia urged both parties to immediately cease hostilities and continue negotiation on all outstanding Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and post-secession issues. "Malaysia commends the efforts by the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) in mediating talks between the two countries. "It is important for leaders of both countries to convene the Summit as soon as possible in order to address the issues peacefully," the statement said. The statement also said that Malaysia was convinced that diplomacy was the way forward in overcoming the differences and reaching a mutually acceptable solution that would benefit all parties for continuous peace and development in the region. -- BERNAMA
