Don't Make Yourself A Fool By Participating In Street Rally - Deputy Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysians, especially the younger generation, were today told not to be easily influenced by negative elements and not to make themselves a fool by participting in worthless activities like street rallies. Information Communication and Culture deputy minister of Malaysia Maglin Dennis D'Cruz said youngsters should instead be thankful as they had received the best that the Malaysian government could offer and could live in such comfort. "I am telling the youngsters that this country cannot be better than this but it can go for the worst. "Do not turn the country into chaos, because once we go into that situation, we cannot come back..especially (because) we are a multiracial country. Even countries that are not multiracial are having problems," he told reporters after opening the International Conference on Colonialism and Decolonisation: Challenges and Prospects at the International Institute of Islamic Thoughts and Civilisation (Istac) here, Tuesday. He was commenting on the attitude of some university students who took part in a street demonstration recently to protest against the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN). The three-day conference, aimed at highlighting, sharing and exchanging views on research findings on issues related to colonialism and decolonisation, was attended by local and iternational participants. -- BERNAMA
