"Equality In Art" Exhibition By Asean Women's Circle In Jakarta

By Ahmad Fuad Yahya JAKARTA, April 18 (Bernama) -- A five-day "Equality in Art" exhibition featuring paintings and sculptures from 70 Asean and Asian women artists would be opened to the public from Tuesday to April 21, at the Asean Secretariat in South Jakarta. In conjunction with the event, a mini bazaar of handicraft would also be held until Wednesday. The event which aims to raise funds for various organisations that work with issues related to natural disasters, disadvantaged children, and the elderly, was dedicated to Kartini Day on April 21, a day of commemoration for women's movement in Indonesia, the Asean Secretariat said in a statement today. "Culture can be a great driving force to unite people all over the world and, by appreciating our cultural arts, we share and enrich each other with our heritage. "(Asean Women's Circle) efforts will help us accomplish the goals of the founding fathers of Asean when they built it nearly 45 years ago. The vision of regional stability and cooperation, which will bring peace and prosperity to our people, is still relevant today," said Bagas Hapsoro, Deputy Secretary-General of Asean for Community and Corporate Affairs. The exhibition is organised in collaboration between the Asean Women's Circle of Jakarta, a charity and non-profit organisation, Yayasan Seni Rupa Indonesia, Ikatan Wanita Pelukis Indonesia-Jawa Barat, and Bale Seni Barli. -- BERNAMA
