Malaysia Among Countries To Study Establishment Of Islamic TV

KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is among 10 countries which have been selected to study the proposed establishment of an Islamic television station that will act as an important platform for highlighting Islamic issues. The International Islamic News Agency (IINA) in a statement to Bernama said the matter was decided at the 9th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation's (OIC) senior information officials meeting in Libreville, Gabon on Tuesday. The OIC Information Ministers Conference this Thursday will finalise the formation of a committee of 10 member countries to study the proposed establishment of an Islamic TV station which will discuss Islam issues globally. Besides Malaysia, the committee will be represented by Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Gabon, Senegal, Nigeria, Morocco and Mauritania. The first meeting of the committee is scheduled to take place at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah in the middle of June, if the proposal is approved at the Ministers' Conference. The proposed Islamic TV will broadcast issues involving the Muslim world, besides defending the interests of the ummah and countering campaigns that discredit Islam and Muslims. -- BERNAMA
