Trio Nabbed For Attacking Rally Participants in Merdeka Square

KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 (Bernama) -- Three men have been detained in connection with the assault of participants who camped in illegally set-up tents at a rally in Merdeka Square. The suspects, aged between 20 and 30, were picked up at separate locations in Subang Jaya, Selangor Sunday. One of them is a welder while the rest are unemployed. This brings the total number of suspects detained to four, said Kuala Lumpur police chief Mohmad Salleh in a statement here Monday. The first suspect was arrested on Thursday at the Merdeka Square, shortly after the attack. Mohmad said the four suspects would be remanded until April 25 to facilitate investigations into the attack. Early Thursday morning, several men were alleged to have attacked rally participants who had camped at Merdeka Square. The participants, mostly students, were calling for free education and the abolition of the National Higher Education Fund Corporation study loans. -- BERNAMA
