Call For Civic & Citizenship To Be Made National Examination Subject
KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 (Bernama) -- A senator Monday suggested that the
Education Ministry carry out a study to make Civic and Citizenship an
examination subject at national-level.
Senator Boon Som Inong said the move could help instill love for the country
among the people when they were still in school and to mould a generation with
noble values.
He said since students only had to sit for tests on Civic and Citizenship
in school, the subject was not taken seriously by students and teachers, as they
would for subjects with examination at national-level, like the Primary School
Evaluation Test, Lower Secondary Assessment and Malaysian Certificate of
Education.
"Therefore, I suggest that the Education Ministry review the national
education policy to consider the matter," he said when debating the speech by
the King Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah,at the Senate sitting.
Senator S. Ramakrishnan wanted the Higher Education Ministry to provide
latest information on the amount of loan given and repayment made under the
National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN).
Meanwhile, Senator Zaitun Mat, wanted the Health Ministry to revise
existing laws to curb the sale of fake medicine or those which had been mixed
with scheduled poison, especially those sold on the Internet.
He also wanted the ministry to beef up enforcement to identify those
involved.
Senator Rahmani @ Rohani Abdullah wanted the government to consider
expanding the 1Malaysia People's Menu (MR1M) to office canteens and cafeteria to
help reduce the cost of living of the workers.
The Senate sitting continues Tuesday.
