Transformation The Aspiration Of the People, Says DPM Muhyiddin
GEORGE TOWN (Malaysia), April 26 (Bernama) -- The National Transformation
Programme mooted by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak actually is to fulfill the
wishes of the people, said Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said the efforts to make comprehensive changes or transformation in the
government system and the amendments to several laws were made after listening
to the people through the visit programmes by the Prime Minister himself.
"The era where the 'government knows all' is over. The government must
respond to the needs of the people. All the transformation programmes
implemented by the government are based on what the people wants," he said when
addressing the people at the 1Malaysia People's Feast at Persiaran Mahsuri,
Bayan Baru near here, Thursday.
He said the government was now adopting an open attitude and accepted the
wishes of the people who wanted improvements in the national administration
system.
Muhyiddin said that as a result of this awareness, the government studied
all the demands made by the people including the cash aid to students, and the
1Malaysia Book Voucher for students of institutions of higher learning (BR1M)
from the lower income group.
He said that in Penang alone, RM80 million worth of BR1M had been disbursed
to 300,000 families and the state receiving the highest amount was Kelantan with
92 per cent of the people in the state having received the aid.
He said the development and progress enjoyed by the people currently was due
to the efforts made by the federal government and he hoped the people realised
the initiatives taken by the government.
At the function, Muhyiddin also announced an allocation of almost RM3
million for the development of basic amenities in the Bayan Baru parliamentary
constituency.
The allocation included the cost for painting and repairing the Desa Permai
Indah low-cost homes in Sungai Dua, Batu Uban and building a 'madrasah' in
Sungai Nibong Kecil.
Upgrading and repairing the hall of the residents' association and
children's playground at Taman Desa Wangsa Permatang Damai Laut, painting and
upgrading the Desa Riang low-cost houses in Batu Uban and the state farmers' and
fishermen's organisations (RM65,000). (US$1=RM3.06)
