Chong Wei Says Mind On Olympics But Will Give His Best In Thomas Cup
NEW DELHI, April 27 (Bernama) – Although his mind is focused delivering the
country's first ever gold medal in the 2012 London Olympics, world number one,
Lee Chong Wei pledged to give his best in the Thomas Cup final to be held
in Wuhan, China.
“There are still 92 days. I will leave 10 days earlier to England for
training purposes. I hope to play well and enjoy my last Olympics,” he said
referring to the London Olympics that starts on July 27.
Speaking to reporters after beating India’s Ajay Jayaram to move into the
quarter finals of the India Open here today, Chong Wei said although all the
other strong rivals would also participate in the London Olympics, he was not
going to think too much of them.
“I want to play well and enjoy the game,” he reiterated when pressed further
on his possible opponents, especially with China expected to field three players
in the men’s singles.
Speaking of the Thomas Cup campaign, he said it would nevertheless be
difficult as the Malaysian team was not quite strong.
The Thomas & Uber Cup Finals, the 2012 edition of the prestigious biennial
team championships will be held from May 20-27.
Chong Wei is also participating in the Indonesian Super Series Premier from
June 12-17.
