FLOOD INUNDATES MEDAN STREETS ON FRIDAY

Medan, Indonesia, Oct. 10 (ANTARA) - A flood reaching a height of up to 50 cm following a two-hour heavy downpour inundated many streets in Medan on Friday morning.

The water on the streets caused traffic jams in some areas.

The flood was caused by Medan's poor drainage system , according to Evarena (32), a resident of Helvetia housing complex.

Hundreds of students were forced to stay home because of the flooding.

Tembung village's elementary school in Percut Sei Tuan subdistrict was among the schools which were closed due to the flood.

"It's impossible to force the students to study in inundated class rooms," one of the teachers said.
According to the teacher, several students came to the school but they were later sent home due to the inundation.
